Baked Mac n' Cheese

Happy 4th of July everyone!!!  We hope that you have a wonderful day.

Today I am sharing my recipe for Baked
Mac n'Cheese.  I was looking for something to make for Danny, who is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, and decided to make this Baked Mac n' Cheese for with the hamburgers that I was making the other night.  I made it with egg noodles since I didn't have any elbow noodles on hand, but you could use any kind of a noodle.  Next week we will be posting Vince's recipe for Mac n' Cheese.  He's showing me how to make it this Saturday.  I'm pretty excited, I love cooking with my kids.  I think Danny is going to be making homemade Fish and Chips for a post also in the next week.  So even though Charly is very pregnant and doesn't want to cook a lot right now, her brothers are pitching in with recipes.

Homemade Mac n' Cheese

Ingredients:

1 large bag egg noodles
24 oz velveeta cheese cubed
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 cups cream or milk
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Directions:

Cook noodles according to the directions on the bag.  Then drain and set aside in the pan.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray nonstick cooking spray in a 9 x 13 casserole dish.

In a large sauce pan melt butter and then stir in flour.

Cook flour over medium heat for about 2 minutes.

Then slowly add the cream, salt, and pepper.

Next, add the cheese and stir constantly until cheese has melted.

Pour the cheese sauce over the noodles and mix well.

Pour into the prepared casserole dish and bake for 30 to 40 minutes.

Makes 12 to 15 servings.

I hope that you like this recipe for Baked Mac n' Cheese.  Vince's sounds delicious.  He makes it with Chorizo, so it must have a little kick, check back next week for his recipe.  I always love hearing from you.

Enjoy!!!

Mia Grace Baby Blanket and Blog Happenings Update

I have been working on a new pattern for this Mia Grace Baby Blanket.  It's named for Charly's baby girl, who will be here sometime in the next month.  I am trying to get it done, so that they can take it to the hospital with them to wrap my beautiful little granddaughter in.  Once I have finished it, I will post the pattern for all of you.  It's pretty simple and works up quickly.  Mia's nursery is black, white, and pink, which is why I'm using these colors in the blanket.  I will post pictures of the nursery this week.  Charly is just putting the last of the babies things away and finishing putting things together and then I will take pictures to show all of you.  It's adorable.  She and Ryan have done a great job.

I also wanted to post a little update about what is happening on Adorned From Above.  I wrote a post several months ago about blogging and trying to find some kind of a balance in my life with blogging.  I love blogging, but I have found that it seemed to take over everything, so I am taking a little step back.  I will still be posting, but less frequently.  I found that I have really missed some of my hobbies that take a little more time.  So like with this blanket pattern, I will post a little less often, because some of these things take more time to make.  Also, since Charly is having a baby soon, she will be spending more time taking care of Mia and less time on the blog.  We will see how much time she feels she can spend blogging once the baby is here.

We can not tell you how much we appreciate the time you take to come by and visit us.  We hope you will continue.  If you sign up for emails, then when new posts come up they will just show up in your emails rather then you having to check back each day for new posts.

Have a wonderful week.

Love - Matthew 5:44

It's easy to love your friends and family, but it's a hard thing is to love your enemies.  That doesn't come naturally to us.  I love these words from Jesus, "Love your enemies".  I don't know about you, but I pray a lot, and this is something that I need to remember.  Pray for my enemies.  Pray for what comes against our country, our cities, our family and friends in our daily lives.  Ask for God's help.  He is listening!!!

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Matthew 5:44

Have a blessed day.

Wire Wrapped Jewelry

A few weeks ago I took one of the Craftsy classes for called Wire Wrapped Stones, Crystals, and Clusters.   Below is a link to this class by Aga Kruk.

It was a great class, I totally loved it.  Above is a necklace and earrings that I made.  It was really easy and she did a great job explaining how to do the wire wrapping.  This is one class that I would really recommend taking.  I paid $39.99 for the class, which I didn't think was bad for probably 12 hours of lessons.  You can take them over time, pause, restart, and so on.

I also took the free Craftsy Mini Class called Free Micro Torch Basics Online Jewelry Making Class, and it was so interesting.  I can't wait to buy my first micro torch so that I can start soldering jewelry.  There is this stuff called solder paste now, which looks so much easier then regular solder.  It has been 35 years since I took a jewelry class, it is so great to know that I can do this at home.  I am pretty excited.

Craftsy is one of my sponsors, but I did pay for the Wire Wrapped Jewelry class.  The Micro Torch class is free and so much fun to watch.  I would totally recommend their classes, but if you are unsure, sign up for Craftsy (it's free) and try one of their free mini classes.  It's a win win for you, you have absolutely to loose on the free classes.  I had taken quite a few of the free mini classes before I finally paid for a class.  It was well worth it.  The next class I pay for is going to be the Metalsmithing At Home Class, but I have to buy a micro torch first.

I always love hearing from you.

You will find another link to Craftsy below and I hope you'll sign up.  They are also offering all of these free patterns listed below for signing up for Craftsy.

Marriage 4 - Bible Verses

Today I am sharing Marriage 4 - Bible Verses.  I am sharing Ephesians 5:21 - 5:25.  I bought this great new book, which has really opened my heart to the meaning of these verses.  I would really recommend that you get this book if you don't already have it.  It's called The Bible Handbook of Difficult Verses by Josh and Sean McDowell.  It really helped clear things up in my head.  There are just some verses which have been a little hard for me to understand, even though they seem very clear and straight forward.  I think this book would help a lot of women out there with it's explanation.

I, as a wife,  have had a difficult time sometimes with Ephesians 5:21 - 5:25.

Eph 5:21  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Eph 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

I have sometimes had a hard time with the submitting part of these verses, until this morning when I was reading this book and these verses in relation to Luke 22:25 - 22:27, and then it all made sense to me.

Luk 22:25  And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
Luk 22:26  But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
Luk 22:27  For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

At the last supper Christ washed the feet of his disciples, he was acting as a servant.  Ephesians 5:21 says "submit yourselves to one another" not to just a certain group of people, but to everyone.  I have always read this in the past, to mean that my husband is kind of the boss of me.  Not very appealing, but when you read in in context with LuKe 22:25 - 22:27, it makes it easier to understand.  Jesus was being a servant to his disciples by washing their feet.  He was leading by serving.

So for a marriage The Bible says in Genesis 2:24  "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh,"  and in Ephesians 5:31 it is written, "For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh," we will be joined with our husbands and become one flesh, our souls tied together.  Unity between a man and his wife.  What is bound on earth is bound in heaven and what is loosed on earth is loosed in heaven.  So when we become one we become one flesh and one soul.

Eph 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Eph 5:33  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:32 - 5:33 that Christ and the Church are one and that is how a husband and wife should be, united as one.   Jesus served the needs of his church to become united with the church.  Josh McDowell states in his book that "a husband can accomplish that by being a servant leader and meeting the needs of his wife."  I think in that light it makes it much easier for a wife to submit to and respect her husband.

I understood this morning that it means that my husband is to lead me and love me and look after me, and in return, I will follow (submit) and respect him in our marriage.

I would really suggest getting this book.  I am pretty excited about reading more of it.  Next week I will share Ephesians 5:28 and what that means for a man in his marriage and how it affects us as wives.  I always love hearing from you.

Have a blessed week.

Gift Ideas for Dad

Here is are some Last Minute Gift Ideas for Dad for Father's Day.  I have been racking my brains for ideas to give my wonderful hubby for Father's Day.  It's really difficult and he does not help in any way.  I always have a list of things I would love to have, but since we bought the house in Florida last fall he is happy and content.  You see he has wanted to move back to Florida for a very long time, so this is his dream come true.  He will be even happier when we can finally move there when he semi retires.

Here is my dilemma, this amazing man has no hobbies.  He says reading depositions are his hobby.  He says they are better then any novel you could ever read.  He's a workaholic.  That's why he can only semi retire, because otherwise he will go stir crazy and want to try working on the house (bad idea).  So I  decided with the help of my children that I would get him some books the help him find a hobby.

So, the reason for the Volkswagen Book is that he has an old 1972 Karmann Ghia that he would like to restore.  He bought it new. Vince came up with this idea.  My handsome hubby is handy with the cars, so maybe this would keep him occupied

He would also like to get a small sailboat, so here is a guide to help him pick one out.  I get incredibly seasick, so I will not be joining him on this adventure.  I get sick on a floating on boogie boards, so there is now way we are getting me on a sailboat.  Do you know how many pairs of sunglasses I have lost over the side of boats over the years?  Too many to count.  Give me a fun little party boat, maybe an old wooden Cris-Craft with a built in bar to head the the restaurants on the inter coastal or for sunset cruises.  This must all happen on really flat water, but that sounds like a whole lot more fun to me.

This may be a good way for us to do inexpensive things.  I am going to have to figure how to save money.  I am bad with money and he's great.  I guess he is going to have to give me some lessons from this book.

Now, neither of us looks like the people in this picture, though if I didn't dye my hair I might.  David, on the other hand, has a head full of brown hair at 65 years old, so I would probably look like these people and he would look young.  I am totally jealous.  He will never see me totally grey!!!  He has just a sprinkling of grey, that is totally not fair.  I am absolutely disgusted!  He will probably laugh once he reads this.  He's 11 years older then me, but teases me about my grey hair.  Oh well!!!  All's fair, I tease him about being so much older then me.

Now, I just added this on, since I know nothing about Florida.  I have never lived there, only spent about 10 days there in my whole life, and need to go sight seeing.  So here is a cool looking guide book for him to use to show me stuff.

Can you believe I agreed to buy a house there?  I figured that it was the only way I would ever get this man to slow down a little and possibly retire.  It must be love, it truly is.  I am totally crazy about this man, the father to our children and soon to be grandpa to our first grandbaby.  I can't wait to grow old with him.  The really thing great about growing old with him is that he will get there before me.

I know today's post is a little bit of a departure from my regular posts.  I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.  I always love hearing from you.

Have a great day.

Cranberry Juice Cocktail from The Settlement Cookbook

I had no idea that it was so easy to make a Cranberry Juice Cocktail like you buy in the grocery store.  I got the recipe for this Cranberry Juice Cocktail from The Settlement Cookbook and changed it up a bit.  I used a cranberry juice concentrate and Trader Vic's Rock Candy Syrup, which was a little faster, then all of the cooking and it came out really good.  It's way better then what you get from the grocery store.

Cranberry Juice Cocktail from The Settlement Cookbook

Ingredients:

3/4 cup Knudsen's Concentrated Cranberry Juice (health food store)
1 1/2 cups Trader Vic's Rock Candy Syrup (liquor store)
1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice
5 cups of water

Directions:

Pour concentrated cranberry juice, rock candy syrup, lemon juice, orange juice, and water into a large pitcher.

Stir well and Serve over Ice

Makes approximately 8 8 oz servings

Can you believe how easy that was to make?  I couldn't and it was so good.  I love this cookbook.  It is full of fancy little tips and recipes.  It is called The Way To A Man's Heart The Settlement Cookbook by Mrs. Simon Kandor copyright 1947.  It's one of the books I received from my Aunt and I am loving the recipes that I am getting from it.  For some reason I half the time just assume that You have to buy something premade.  It is so helpful, to know I can do it myself.  Next week, I am going to share the original recipe using cranberries to make this drink.  We'll see how that comes out.

I hope that you like this recipe.  I always love hearing from you.

Enjoy!!!

Brussel Sprouts and Bacon for Father's Day

This Brussel Sprouts and Bacon recipe is a great side dish for Father's Day.  What man can't resist bacon in anything.  The bacon really makes the brussel sprouts tasty.  Charly made these for us last week and they were a big hit.  Everyone loved them, even Danny who says he doesn't like brussel sprouts.

Brussel Sprouts and Bacon

Ingredients:

2 bags frozen brussel spouts steamed and then cut in half
8 slices thick cut bacon (sliced in half lengthwise the  cut into small pieces
1 onion chopped

Directions:

Heat a frying pan and add the bacon.

Cook the bacon over medium heat until lightly browned.

Pour off about 1/2 of the bacon fat from the pan.

Then add the chopped onion and continue cooking over medium heat until soft.

Then add the cooked, halved brussel sprouts and continue cooking.

Turn the heat up to medium and cook all of it until the brussel sprouts are starting to turn crisp and browned.  You are basically frying them. (make sure that you don't burn the onions.)

Makes 4 to 6 servings

These were really delicious side dish.  I hope that all of you like them as much as we do.  I always love hearing from you.

Enjoy!!!
