Fruit Skewers for a Baby Shower

Vince made these Fruit Skewers for a Baby Shower.  He is a really good big brother.  He came over early to help move furniture out of  my living room to make room for the tables, and ended up helping me finish getting the rest of the food ready.  They were very simple to make, and looked so pretty on the food table.  They would be great for any party, and look a little more festive then just a fruit bowl or fruit platter.

Fruit Skewers for a Baby Shower

Ingredients:

Strawberries
pineapple
cantaloupe
watermelon
grapes
bamboo skewers

Directions:

Cut the stems off of your strawberries, cut the rest of your fruit into bite size pieces, except for the grapes.

Thread the fruit onto the skewers, using one of each kind of fruit on the skewer.

Make enough fruit skewers so that you have 1 to 2 skewers per person.

Vince made about 30 skewers and we had 20 people at the shower.  We had about 6 skewers left at the end of the shower.   So these ended up being a big hit.  I think the only thing I would add would be a fruit dip next time, but that didn't seem to bother the people at the shower.

I hope this gives you another simple idea for a shower, luncheon, or barbeque this summer.  I always love hearing from you.

Have a great weekend.

Blue Pineapple Mango Martinis

I a recipe for a Blue Pineapple Mango Martini for you today. I made this for Mom, Dad, and my friend Ian a few weeks ago, and Mom thought this would be a good a Friday's Happy Hour Recipe. They seemed to like the drink a lot.  I can't honestly tell you how it was, since I am 31 weeks pregnant and am not drinking.  Ian's first reaction was just so so, but then he said it grew on him, and he had two, so it must have been good. It's fun playing bartender I just start mixing different ingredients, that sound like they might be good together to make drinks. This is the first time I have ever used Blue Curacao, and I have never tasted it, but it looked pretty in the bottle.

 Blue Pineapple Mango Martinis

 Ingredients:

4 oz pineapple vodka
2 oz blue curacao
3 oz mango nectar

Directions:

Add ice to a martini shaker.

Add the pineapple vodka, blue curacao, and mango nectar.

Let sit for a minute to chill well, and then shake.

Pour into 2 martini glasses and serve.

I hope you like my Blue Pineapple Mango Martinis as much as my parents and Ian did. We always love hearing from you.

 Enjoy!!!

Mixed Greens Salad with Strawberries and Goat Cheese

I made a Mixed Greens Salad with Strawberries and Goat Cheese for Charly's Baby Shower.  It's a recipe that I came up with a long time ago, and I thought it would be beautiful on the table at the luncheon.  It is a simple recipe to make and looks elegant on the table.  The flavors of the goat cheese, strawberries, and candied pecans all go really well together.  I also use a poppy seed dressing which adds that extra bit of sweetness to the salad, and goes well with the chicken salad and saffron shrimp.

Mixed Greens Salad with Strawberries and Goat Cheese

Ingredients:

1 large box of mixed greens from Costco or your grocery store 1lb
1 lb sliced strawberries
1 1/2 bags candied pecans or walnuts
6 oz goat cheese (crumbled)
1 1/2 bottles Brianna's Poppy Seed Dressing

Directions:

Put your mixed greens in a large bowl.

Add your sliced strawberries, candied pecans, and goat cheese.

Start with one bottle of the poppy seed dressing and start tossing your salad.  Add more dressing if necessary.

Serves 20

You can cut all of the ingredients in half for a smaller crowd.  Also, if this had been the only salad,  It would not have served as many people, but we also had a ceasar salad, so people were taking a little of both.  We did not have much of this left, so it went over pretty well.  I hope that you like this recipe.  I always love hearing from you.

Onsie Baby Banner for Baby Shower

Today, I am going to give directions for making this really cute Onsie Baby Banner for a Baby Shower.  It was pretty easy to do, and it came out so cute.  I got a lot of ideas from Pinterest, here is a link to my Baby Shower Board, with my pins and the pins that inspired me.  I had pinned a onsie that said, "So Glad to be Out, I was running out of womb." and Gabi and I decided that should be the centerpiece of the banner.  When I was on Amazon.com shopping for the onsie, I saw 2 others with tutus.  One said, "I'm a Daddy's Girl" and the other said, "Mommy's little Girl".  I thought they would be really cute on the banner also, along with the plain onsies.

Gabi and Laurie were so wonderful.  They took the pictures that I had pinned and the materials that I bought and brought what was in my head to life. They are wonderful friends and family.

Onsies Baby Banner for Baby Shower

Supplies:

4 plain onesie
3 cute fun onsies of your choice
 16 bamboo clothes pins
Twine or thin rope
9' 1 1/2 inch ribbon (of your choice) (or length that you need for your window)
9' 7/8 inch ribbon (of your choice) (or length that you need for your window)
4 tacks

Directions:

We laid the onsies out on a table to see what we were working with.

Then, Laurie and Gabi laid cute the twine so that it was long enough to hang over my window and drape down the sides about 1 1/2'.

They then cut the ribbon to the same length as the twine.  My ribbon had pink and white stripes and the other said It's a girl with a baby carriage on it.  The put the ribbon in front of the twine.

Next, they centered the black onsie in the center of the ribbon and twine and used the clothes pins to attach the onsie to the twine and ribbon.

They, added the other onsies to the twine anchoring them with the clothes pins.

Then we used a clothes pin to hold all of the ribbon and twine together about 1 1/2 feet from the end on each side.

We then used two tacks on each side of the clothes pins to anchor the banner above the window on each side of the window.

You now have a finished Onsie Baby Banner.

I think this banner came out so cute and it looked great above the desert table.  I always love hearing from you.

Have a great week.

Marriage

Just a few simple verses today on Marriage.  There is so much wisdom to be found in The Bible.  God's word is so beautiful and informative.  He gives us a set of rules to follow about getting married and also on marriage itself, and what he expects of us.  Next week, I will share some verses about God's expectations of the husband / wife relationship (God's expectations of both men and women).

Marriage

Luk 20:34  And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

1Co 7:33  But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

1Ti 5:14  I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

I read a post from Simply Vintageous by Suzan that was about a Pat Robertson radio show.  I was appalled at Pat Robertson's comments to the women calling into his show.  I believe that God has set guidelines for marriage, but I believe the The Bible was never meant to give men the idea that men just stray, and women should just put up with it. I also do not believe that God wants women to feel like it's all their fault, because they didn't dress pretty enough or have enough makeup or just be perfect in general.  We are human beings with flaws, and God sees us how we are.  To use The Bible as a soap box to allow men to wander outside a marriage truly gives new meaning to perverting the word.

Sorry, I did not mean for today's post to be a rant, but I love The Bible.  It is so beautiful, and I get really upset when people try to change the meaning to suit themselves.

Have a blesses week.
