Couch Re Upholstery Reveal

Okay today is my HUGE Couch Re Upholstery Reveal.  I have been working on this project for months.  I stopped working on it several times, because I was traveling.  Then the last time was because I messed up the fabric on the back of the couch and had to piece more fabric together and actually draw a pattern.  The back of the couch is a camel back and I definitely need a pattern to make sure the curve was right.  So I finally took time off of blogging to finish the couch.  It has been sitting on sawhorses in my living room for 4 months. What a relief.  I still need to put the stripped fabric on the arms and the yellow trim around, but that will be done by Monday.  It is on the floor, and it looks beautiful.  I love it.  Wait till you see the before and after photos.  Amazing!!!

Okay, so are you ready?  Get Set!!.  Here it is.

Before  (this was already torn apart, it also had burgandy bullion around the bottom.)

  3. Hi Debi! I was following you on Google+ and now I'm following with GFC. That is an amazing and mammoth project! I don't think a lot of women would have the guts to do it. Well done! I'm sure a lot of women will love to make your cushions once they're done.

    1. Hi Tina,
Thanks you so much for following me. I didn't think it would be as hard as it was. It was also hard to tackle a big job like that while I was trying to start a blog. Both are full time jobs.
I will be over to follow you.

  5. Oh Debi, what a beautiful job. I love re-upholstery and have done 4 dining chair seats for someone. Do you know that it is next to impossible to find classes in upholstery. Training is mostly found through the few remaining individual shop owners who may be willing to share their craft.

I was hoping that you'd done this work yourself. I was so glad that you were not sharing pics from the shop where it was being done for you, lol! It looks to be an expert job, and I'd like to read more posts about your upholstery adventures. I look forward to posting about it more too.

    Have a nice Sunday,
    Sandi

    1. I learned from google and a book. There is a school here that does teach upholstering. It is called The Emily Griffith Opportunity School in Downtown Denver. It is a really good school. I have not taken their upholstery classes there, I have taken their clothing design classes. No, I can guarantee that I did the work myself. I think my husband was getting tired of the couch sitting on sawhorses.
      Thanks for visiting.

    1. Hi Debbie,
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. It was quite the undertaking. I am not going to do my wingback chairs. I decided just to slipcover them.
thanks you so much for visiting.

    1. Hi Marty,
I didn't either. I have done slipcovers, but never upholstering. It is totally different. There are so many staples to remove.

    1. Hi Christina,
It is hard and a lot of work. You can find websites on google that will tell you how to do it, and I also bought a book called Professional Upholstering. I would also recommend getting a staple gun with an air compressor. I borrowed one from a friend. He told me that as wood gets older it gets harder, so my electric stable gun did not do the trick. The air compressor is the way to go. Let me know if you have questions.

    1. Hi Lisa,
You can do it too. It is mostly stapling. I learned how from google and a book. It is just time consuming, and getting stables out of a couch are hard.
      Thanks so much for visiting.

It is comfortable. The bench seat would not be hard to make. You can buy the foam at Joann's to make one It comes in a 4 inch and you can have them cut it to size. Thanks for taking the time to visit me.

  22. That has to be one of the most amazing projects I've seen in a while! Well done! Know just how tiring re-upholstery can be: did it once and decided that once was enough! Mine was not nearly as complicated, either. Hope you enjoy many comfortable hours reclining on it!
